Erika & Jon are engaged!

Oh how much fun they were!!! Jon flew in the night before the shoot and they hadn't seen each other in four months. They were so happy to see each other and just be with each other. If I ever do another engagement shoot, I think I might request that the couple don't see each other for four months!! Ha Ha Just kidding!! Here are the love birds, enjoy!

Moab Night Photography

Tonight was our critique for the Night Photography Class I took. There were some amazing photos. It was really neat to see the different perspectives from everyone we were camping with. We were all taking pictures of the same thing from the same place, but they were all different. There were similar landscapes in the photos, but a different view. I had a great time with everyone and hope to do it again.
The purpose of this class was to learn how to take photographs at night with long exposures. All of the photos below were taken after it got dark with the moon lighting the landscape brining out details in the landscape.
Enjoy!!

30 seconds exposure at 9:40 pm after the full moon came up, facing west 4/18/08
This was one of my first photos. I got what Chris the instructor calls "happy feet" after I saw how it turned out. I only took 15 photographs that first night there. Shocking, I know!

6 minute exposure at 9:50 pm 4/18/08

8 minute exposure at 10:04 pm facing the north star 4/18/08

17 minute exposure at 10:47 pm facing west 4/18/08

30 second exposure of Fisher Towers as moon rises facing east at 9:11 pm 4/19/08

22 minute exposure facing southwest at 9:24 pm 4/19/08
I got Venus, the bright streak lower left, and the constellation Orion just to the right of Venus. To explain this photo to you; it is pitch dark in the valley, but as the moon rises it starts to light up the valley below us. When a camera stays open for so long, it is taking on the light that the moon is shining on the valley below and can make this photograph look like it was taken in the middle of the day. Two things give it away that it is a night shot, the star trails as the earth rotates, and the streaks of light coming from head lights of cars driving down the road in the far distance on the right of the photo.

Here are some photos I took during the day. Moab is a special place for Joe and I , that is why we jumped at the chance to go. We camped in an area of Moab we hadn't been before and loved the new experience. Fisher Towers is near and dear to us and we were so excited to learn that one of the "lessons" would be there.

Vanessa and Robert

I was lucky enough to be asked by my photo instructor Nick to come and photograph a wedding with him. I had so much fun and I hope I get the chance to do it again. It was a great learning experience for me. Nick was so patient and never made me feel like I had to get that "special" shot or I was in the way. He just told me to shoot what I wanted and have fun. WOW!! Did I!! I don't know how he does it, but it was like watching a artist at work, at ease in his element. So I am sharing with you some of my favorite photos that I took at the wedding and reception.

Here is Nick hard at work doing what he does best, making everyone smile.

Check out his other work!!

Final Critique

Tomorrow is my last day in Digital Photo 2. I had such a wonderful time and learned so much in the class. I really hope that the four of us can be in a class together with Nick as our instructor. I learned so much from Nick and hope to continue to learn more and I hope to start a portfolio and sharing more photos.

Our assignment was to continue with our personal vision series. My personal vision is to take photos of kids growing up. Doesn't sound like much, but I don't want the "typical" posed photos to reflect upon. Don't get me wrong, I like looking at old photographs and hearing stories about the scene. But I want a different view of what their favorite things are and new experiences. I want to remember the emotion and also have someone looking at the photo for the first time to feel the emotion as well. So here is what I am turning in tomorrow.

Lauryn got a digital camera last week and has been proudly taking pictures. She has been so gitty with delight and has taken quite a few photos, some of them pretty good.

I also had to photograph something that most people would not notice or stop to reflect upon.

For me, when I go to Moab, Utah it is a time to reflect on my life. Sitting in the beautiful canyons that surround Moab gives you a little perspective on life. The experience is different to different people in different ways. As I was sitting there one afternoon I was watching these clouds come over head. They traveled through pretty quick, but for a couple of hours. I figured that it was a sign they wanted to be noticed so I took a picture.

Two Birds - One Stone

Digital Photo 2 Week 2 Assignment
Portraits and Black and White

How lucky was I to get a portrait assignment the week I was asked to fly to Oklahoma City to take my little brothers senior portraits before graduation? Very lucky I say. I had so much fun with Dylan. He really got into it and I loved his creativity. Thanks for a fun weekend, I hope we can do it again. Next time at the lake!!! :)

These are a couple of the ones that I got along the way, neat surprises when I loaded them on the computer.

Happy April!!
